Hi folks
I am an elderly Englishman, living in Africa. Just an old codger you might
say. I have zero chickens and less knowledge but a keen interest and
hoping to have some chickens in the future (God willing). I came across
this site by accident (or was it?). I love gardens and my specialty is growing
tomatoes and cucumbers. I also love birds especially the wild ones.
My one introduction to a chicken, a large aggressive cockerel. happened a
few years ago. I was staying on a camp site and I happened to walk through
a barn on the farm. In the barn was this cockerel with some of his lovely
wives. As I walked the bird came running at me in a rage. I stood still and
when he had reached me I placed my foot under his chest and lifted him
backwards about six feet. He stood up glared at me and came again.
Same thing, back he went. This time he shook his feathers and slowly
walked away, making clucking noises. I think he was warning me to
stay away from his gorgeous wives, but under the circumstances, he
was letting me off this time.
Bye
Brian

Hey Brian, nice story. Welcome to BYC you will find a life spring of information here to start you on an adventure of enjoying your own chickens. All Roosters are not so aggressive :). Nice to meet you, Robin

Brian welcome to BYC from middle Tennessee. I resemble the remark in your second sentence. I started my adventure a little over a year ago and now have chickens, ducks and turkeys and hope to add geese next spring. There's a wealth of information out here and a lot of smart people (I'm not really one of them)... So Welcome!:old:frow

Hi :frow
