Introduction

Hi! Always googling for information about chickens and Backyard is always the perfect site so I thought I’d join.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I’ve had chickens for about 3 years now. yes and no. My dad had them and i know the horrid side of chickens, but am new to my preferred side=pet chickens. I just got some late last spring or summer.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? about 7

(3) What breeds do you have?I have 1 Rhode Island Red, 1 Cuckoo maran, 2 blue silkies, and rest are ameraucana. obsessed with silkies and ameraucana already lol

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Googling

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? music and dancing(tho not great at either) art and nature, hikes and walking

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

G’Day from down under Hey Lady :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Thank you for the warm welcome! I don’t think I’ll be getting anymore chickens just yet and I am struggling with my Rhode Island Red being sick right now so I’m checking out some illness threads to see if I can figure this out. Took her to the vet yesterday who prescribed baytril but no changes in behavior today. I’m starting to think it might be sour crop however the crop hasn’t been large or felt impacted but this greenish liquid spews out of her beak if I tilt her to far forward while holding her.

If you suspect a crop issue, here is a link to a very good article written by one of our great moderators, @TwoCrows impacted-slow-and-sour-crops-prevention-and-treatments.67194

I hope your girl gets better soon, best of luck!

P.S. :welcome
