(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
No. Second go round. First chickens were 39 years ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Twelve, and possibly four on the way. Two of our hens are broody.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Wyandotte & Sexlink
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Searching on Google.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening, and canning veggies, and pickling.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. Married, two grown children, and live on a small island in the Bay Of Fundy. Cherish, and spend much time with, my eight year old, autistic, grandson. Have a small white multi-poo, named "Cookie", named by my grandson. LOL Love animals, and have had quite a variety over the past fourty years.
 
1. I have had chickens for about 12 years.
2. I have twenty right now, maybe six on the way.
3. I have golden laced wyandott, white Plymouth rock, welsummer, barnevelder, silkie, and a cross.
4. Reading online.
5. Reading, sewing, felting.
6. Live with my Mom, Dad and my brother, have two pet rats, Melissa & Rose (put their names together to make my username) My family and I have a cow and a calf, six sheep and to pigs and we're also raising sixty meat birds.

How do you guys deal with the tides....in the middle of the bay? They are some of the worst in the world. :bow

Thanks for the welcome! You are correct about the tides. We have a lot of smaller islands around us, which help put us in the lee. Lobster boats have no problem, or even small skiffs with large motors. If a person did break down, they would just drift with the tide, until they hit the mainland or nearest island. Lots of boat traffic around where I live, so no problem being spotted. We have two ferries that run from our island to the mainland, and they have no problem with the tide. We do have the world's largest whirl pool, called "The Old Sow", on one of our points. That you would not want to get caught up in!:eek:
