Hello, I've had chickens in the past and am just now getting back into getting chickens again. I've been directed to threads on this site so many times in trying to find answers to my chicken questions that I thought it was about time I finally join! I plan on starting a little flock of silkies, and am hoping I might be able to get into breeding them in the next few years if all goes well. I absolutely love incubating and hatching, it is definitely addicting! I live in east Tennessee with my wonderful husband, 3 loving dogs and 2 pet rats. :)

Hello, and welcome! Glad that you joined! Silkies are a smaller chicken, and you will have to keep the rat's away from them, I think. I seen someone's pet rat kill a pet parakeet many year's ago.

Oh no, poor little parakeet! Thanks for the warning, I'll make sure my two rattie boys don't cause any harm to the silkies (they only have time outside the cage when they are being closely supervised and I don't plan on having the silkies and rats out at the same time). I've had silkies before and they did very well in my current coop so hopefully the ones I hatch soon will do well once they are old enough to go outside. :)
