Thank you so much for the links!
Any information is greatly appreciated! I love this website, not only for my baby ducklings but for the info for chickens as well.

I've absolutely fell in love with my birds. They've got me trained pretty well.. Lol. :-D

Also, no spells so far today! <3 I'm going to pick up some "grit" this evening. If they're eating more of their bedding than I'm noticing, I want to make sure they have what they need to digest it.. Smh.

Nosey little things have tried to eat everything not nailed down so far!

I've also started to chops up some basil and garlic for them, see if I can't get more vitamins in them that way too.

Your baby ducks are adorable; enjoy it because they grow up so fast!

As you've learned BackYard Chickens is only part of what this group is about. There's plenty of information on all kinds of poultry.

Are yours straight run or did you have them sexed? I picked my first four ducklings from a breeder with no thought to gender and got three males. Yikes!! I did not have problems with the boys fighting with each other -- likely because they grew up together -- but it did mean too many boyfriends for my lone girl.

Efforts to balance out the sexes has been only somewhat successful. It's that time of year when boy ducks want to breed all the time, and girl ducks lose feathers on the backs of their heads.

Okay, that sounds a bit negative, but truly, I LOVE my ducks and I'm sure you will love yours too. I would be too afraid to try to get mine into the river and back out, but we have an old canoe ours use as a swimming pool in the summer!

Welcome to BYC!

I got them as a 'straight run', I couldn't find one local farm that would give them to me 'sexed' so young.

I have a friend that has ducks and geese all shapes and size and a pretty big flock too, he said he'd take any males that are too rough if I couldn't find anymore females.

*fingers crossed*

I've read alot of the color of the feathers and the sounds of their quacks to determine sex. Lol. They're still to fuzzy and squeaky I think to go that route.

I'd love to take them in the river but I think for the first year I'm going to keep them in their pin outside, they've all got to the point where they allow me to dry them off after baths, open their mouths, they tolerate me (mostly) petting their heads and hand feeding them. Lol.

The more me and my daughter read about it, I think more scared we're getting. We might try to just keep them in the cove next to the house, next year and not go too far out. That's an awesome Idea for a swimming pool btw.. We've found a small 3 tier outdoor gold fish pond (about 4-6ft accross and 3ft deep.. It's kinda bean shaped). We're still working on the outdoor space. I'm planning on keeping them inside until we hit about 8-9 weeks.

We're still scared of turtles, wild ducks, Swans, the big Osprey birds and the Bald Eagles :-(
