(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
-I’ve had chickens for about 2 years and ducks for 6 months.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
-I currently have 13 chickens and 2 ducks.
(3) What breeds do you have?
- I have a Polish pair, a Cochin frizzle pair, one Bantam Mille Fleur hen, two buff Brahma hens, a mosaic hen, a cuckoo OEGB hen, a bantam Mille Fleur hen, a mix cockerel & two barnyard mix hens. Ducks are a crested khaki Campbell drake and an Ancona hen.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
- I enjoy watching them and seeing all their different personalities.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
- My husband and I are both on staff for a 501c3 working to provide clean water, educational opportunities and medical care in Togo, Africa. We also travel as much as possible. We’ve been to Togo 2x and Egypt once. We recently spent our 30th anniversary on the Olympic peninsula and in Victoria, B.C.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
- My husband is a horticulturist, managing a branch of a landscape supply wholesale company. I’m a mental health therapist (LCSW), working with a 501c3 that serves the HIV+ & HepC+ Community. We have a son & daughter, both grown and out. I also have 3 aquariums, a couple senior dogs and a polydactyl snowshoe Siamese cat.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
- I was searching for answers about a chick issue and found BYC. Bookmarked it immediately!! I thankfully have a vet living next door who is one of the few in the area to see chickens. Finally joined to see if I could give back to the community who has helped me so much!
