Hi there! My name is Ashley. I am rather new to forum posting so I am going to try to stick to the sample.

Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am relatively new to keeping chickens. I started my flock about 2 and a half years ago. I had always wanted chickens growing up but unfortunately lived in a city that would not allow them. I was able to purchase my families original homestead 3 years ago and moved my family up to the countryside where we have little by little been trying to get back to our roots and enjoy the benefits of a mini farm.

How many chickens do you have right now?
I currently have 7 chickens.

What breeds do you have?
I have 3 Rhode Island Reds (2 1/2 years old), 2 Black sex link and 2 Isa Browns (about 3 weeks old).

What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love watching them grow, establish their personalities and really enjoy their company. They can be fantastic pets and I absolutely enjoy interacting with them.

What are some of your other hobbies?
I love crafty things. I crochet, sew, woodburn, build, garden, fix things and love to indulge in outdoor activities. I enjoy being active and taking care of our pets. Family time is very important to me as well.

Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My family consists of my mother (Patti), my son (Elijah), my husband (Cj) and myself we live in my families original homestead that was over 100 years old when it was purchased in 1945 located in Northeastern, Pennsylvania. My grandparents (Paul and Bonnie) live nextdoor to us.
I have 2 dogs (Pippin and Cocoa) Pippin is a chihuahua we rescued from a backyard breeder 10 years ago he has a lot of knee troubles from shotty breeding. Cocoa is a 15 year old chi-weenie mix (I think he has some Jack Russell in him as well due to his 3ft. high sporadic jumping.) He was a rescue we took in after he was thrown out of a moving car on the highway. We also have 5 cats who were all rescued. Luna who is a maine coon, Akasha who is a ragdoll, no one wanted because she didn't have perfect markings and is partially blind. Lily who is an all black female shorthair who my son helped bottle feed 10 years ago. Azrael who is a black marine coon mix who is huge but was dieing when we took him in. He was from a cat hoarders house and had a lot of respiratory issues. Chloe who is a domestic short hair with tiger stripes and leopard patches, her mother had been hit by a car outside one of my friends houses so I scooped her up to come home. We also have a chinchilla that was being used as a breeder by a pet shop and they no longer wanted her annnnnddd I also have 3 white muscovy ducks (2 females Squeeky and Spot) and a male (Jim) who had to be evicted from the females open and now has run of the acreage.
I am a complete workaholic. I am a fourth generation small business owner of a vacuum cleaner/lawn and garden equipment repair shop. I am also a co-owner of a small handmade item business where my mother and I do crochet items, wire wrapped jewelry, wood burning, custom orders, and all sorts of crafty things. We are also trained in reiki, IET and other healing modalities and recently are in the process of completing an herbalism course.

Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC when I moved back up to the country by going to tractor supply for feed and other necessities. I am an avid book buyer and magazine reader so I was forever picking up backyard chicken books and homesteading magazines to get us established. I have also come across this community in the past when trying to research things tha are good or not so good to help out with my flock.

Thank you for reading my rather long winded introduction. I look forward to interacting with all of you and hope you have a blessed day!

Hello, Ashley, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I also have only rescue dogs and a cat.
It's a horrible statement on humanity that a person would actually throw an unwanted dog out the window of a moving vehicle on the highway. Someone did that here with two dogs as well. I'm glad you took him in.
I would love to see some examples of your wrapped jewelry!

Hello there Ashley and welcome to BYC! :frow

Very nice introduction! Enjoy all your doggies. I've got an elderly Maltese with heart disease, on his last few months. They just don't live long enough, time goes so fast. 🐶

Make yourself at home here and welcome to our community!
Thank you! I agree they don't. I am so sorry to hear about your furbaby.

Thank you for taking in yours as well. If you are on facebook and search for Bellaluna Eterna you can see your jewelry there.
