1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to chickens. I have always wanted to start my own backyard chicken flock and due to recent events providing myself additional time to prepare for them (building an enclosed predator proof area & chicken coop) - this dream came true. We got our mixed flock of 8 chickens on April 18, 2020.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We currently have 8 chickens right now.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We have 2 French Black Copper Marans, 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Ameraucanas and 2 Speckled Sussex.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I just love spending time in the yard watching them forage first bugs and eating greens. I love their personalities and I find it very relaxing to hang out with them. I love the breeds of chicken I have. I am in awe with their patterns on their feathers. I also can’t believe how fast my pullets have grown over such a short time.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love the outdoors. I enjoy doing my own landscaping & tree care, I love to fish, and I enjoy traveling with my family.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
my family is comprised of my wife, daughter, myself, my mini aussie, my 8 chickadees and my calico cat. I work for Alaska Airlines.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC to be a great resource as I started my journey to starting my own BYC flock. I look forward to sharing my BYC story in this community and continuing to learn more about raising chickens from this awesome community.
