Hello,

I am new here, I am also new to having chickens. I went to tractor supply and bought my first chickens 6 weeks ago. I bought a mix of everything they had (24 chickens total). I did this on my way to pick up 11 muscovy ducks i had bought, and ended up with a Bantam as well giving me 25 chickens. Currently I have 23 chickens (lost one early on in the brooder and lost one of the meat chickens today (due to heat I guess). Currently I have 8 cornish cross, 3 golden sex links, 3 Wyandottes, 1 bantam, and the other 8 are legions and I can't remember the last. Ive decided that we are gonna transition to just dominickers and easter eggers soon though (after we slaughter the meat chickens and figure out how many roosters we have out of the rest). In addition to the chicken and 10 Muscovy ducks, we have an English mastiff, English/Italian mastiff and great Dane dogs and 2 cats. I currently have 13 Cayuga duck eggs incubating and planning to get goats soon.

I am a mom to 3 kids (8, 12, 16 (next month)) and 2 step kids (18 and 21). My 16 year old has a rare neurological disease so she doesn't interact with the chickens and ducks much, my 8 year old absolutely loves them especially the ducks. My hobbies are now raising our animals and kids, i homeschool the 8 and 12 year old with the 16 year old homeschooling this year due to Covid. I have also started a small container garden to grow some of our own food.

I found BYC when googling and trying to find information on what I should be seeing when I candle my ducks. Tonight I was looking to see if they could have 2 hearts (twins) in one egg and came across a thread from 5 years ago between 2 people having a contest so I decided to join BYC for the community, support and help I've seen given.
