Hi All,

I Would like to introduce myself, I have been following this forum for the last 2 years since just before I got my ducks and have found lots of helpful information and today I decided was time I join this group so I can ask questions when they arise. I have 5 ducks. 4 of which I raised from a couple days old and the 5th I got from someone about a year ago. I have 4 Khaki Campbell's and 1 Welsh Harlequin/Silver Appleyard Mix who finally has learned to become a duck, she wouldn't swim and didn't seem to like the water, one area of our backyard floods in the winter/spring and the other ducks love it, but she would avoid it as much as possible, she would go out of her way to walk around it to come up the house or the coop, then last summer when giving the ducks some treats by their ducks pools I tossed some meal worms in the water in front of her (she would dunk her head in the pool to clean or drink but not get in) well she was really wanting those meal worms and she decided to jump in after them and she has been swimming and loving the water ever since! They all have funny little personalities. Love peas and love me when I have peas, but if I try to pick one up they run like I have the plague lol. However, I can and do pick them up when I need to, like to check them over and make sure they are doing ok or if I need to treat wounds or anything. Louise is my Welsh Harlequin/Appleyard, Kiwi, Lucy, Merle and Quackers are my 4 Khaki's. They are all awesome ducks, they have a big fenced in yard to roam free all day with 2 kiddie pools to splash around in and a nice coop to sleep in safely at night away from the predators. I did have 6 at one point but when I got her and Louise she had problems we weren't aware of, which we found out she had prolapsed vent at some point in her past which was poorly treated and left her badly scarred and had some bad issues with her vent relating to that injury, I had her to see a vet and he told us what the issue was and informed us of the past prolapse. Hje also let us know if she starts laying again that she wouldn't be able to pass an egg as her vent was to small from the scarr tissue, well she hadn't been laying, likely due to stress, but one day she died and the day before we had seen a egg on the ground with no shell and we think it may have been her and we think she ended up being egg bound and died possibly from that. she was a sweet duck and was also a Welsh Harlequin/Silver Appleyard, her name was Thelma. One of my main reasons for joining this forum is that one of Khaki's, Lucy, has a tendency to have problems with her foot, last year she had bumblefoot a couple times in the same foot and this year she had some other issue happening, her foot was swollen and blistered, we treated as best we could with not knowing the issue (not bumblefoot) well the blisters seem to have finally gone down, and we chose to leave her bandage off and let her foot get some air and the next evening noticed the webbing had a hole in it and the skin flaking off her foot but it didn't look raw, just the skin was peeling off, some of the skin was peeled up but still attached and very hard. So I applied Polysporin and wrapped it lat night. I will make another post about this issue with Pictures when I can get a picture later. Sorry for the long rambling, But I am happy to be here and hoping to gain lots more knowledge from this very helpful and knowledgeable group!
