Hi everyone!
My daughter, husband and I live in the Austin, TX area. We bought land in Dripping Springs and will build a house there. Can't wait to get some chickens when we move in!
Here are our answers to the intro questions:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes we are new to chickens, and don't have any yet. Will probably get them next year. We are here to learn!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 0, but so many in my virtual cart
(3) What breeds do you have? None yet, but love so many that we are having a hard time deciding which to start with.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Not sure yet. More pets to love on? Eggs maybe?
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? About to get into beekeeping...bees arrive in April
Gardening. Cooking. Baking. Horseback Riding. Traveling. Skiing. Reading. Trying new things.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. Hubby works mostly from home in the corporate world. I am an accountant by education, but have put that life on pause so I can homeschool my daughter who is a competitive gymnast. She and I LOVE all animals, and are very excited about the prospect of raising chicks. We have 2 dogs (boxer and cavalier mix) and an indoor cat.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Every google search about anything chicken related kept leading me back here. Since yesterday. Joined because of the great forum you have here. And the fact that we can get sexed Bantam chicks. We aren't allowed to have roosters were we bought the land and I didn't like the idea of having to get rid of a bunch of them as I would be very concerned about them going to a good home after getting attached and also not having the number of chickens we planned for. Know there is still a possibility but seems BYC does a pretty good job of getting it right.
