Hello, I am Chris and I am looking to start a new venture in having chickens. I have had some when I was younger but that was in the early 1990s and regulations have changed a bit in my area since then. I am thinking about getting a pair to start with since my county is limits 4 chickens for my 10,000 sq. property lot. But the information packet from my county in Maryland was a bit weird since it had the registration of chickens first in the checklist then an inspection of the coop and run close to the end of the list. lol. I am still doing research prior to getting the chickens, but I think I'll at least get some ideas or plans for a coop and run in place just to get the inspection approval. I would like to try for a pair of Americauna or the Easter Eggers based on a friend's suggestion that they are a good starter for my son to experience once everything is set in place.
While I was in the Philippines visiting my in-laws in 2016, the memories of having chickens growing up was fun and it would be nice to pass the similar experience to my son especially some responsibility in caring for a wonderful pet. My wife is a high school teacher and I left my work at the hospital in 2017 to try my luck as a personal investor which seems to be thriving while working from home. Bonus: As mentioned, I heard about BYC from a friend and from my county's carrying for chickens & ducks introduction packet. I figured a good way to gather research for an interest is to look into a community that has experience in the field of practice.
Thank you for having me to this wonderful community, I am looking forward to your guidance as I try venturing into having my own chickens.
