Just introducing myself. I have had backyard chickens in Seattle for 7 years, and am on my 3rd batch. We keep them until they get sick and put them down, or thy die naturally. We don't cull for eating. We've had a huge range of chicken breeds over the years, and our best have been the Americana, and gold sex link, though our new favorite is the Blue Australorp. She is an amazing layer! We are having nothing but trouble this year though, with broodiness like crazy accompanied by super aggressive behavior. So that's totally taking the fun out of it.
This has definitely been "the year of broody ladies" for me. Seems like the only ones in my flock who aren't going broody are the roosters.
