In the Brooder
Hello!
My name is Jane, and I am a first time chicken mama living in Western North Carolina. I have 12 chicks, 4 dogs, and 2 cats.
I am hoping to learn much more about chickens. I am actually kind of a data-obsessed person so I am creating a spreadsheet with about 81 breeds so far that includes everything I can think of from origins, size, color varieties, eggs per year, age to start laying, egg color, broodiness, adaptability to confinement, temperament, conservation status, cold tolerance, noise level, and about 15 more fields so I can do some future analysis. I will probably post that on here when I am done in the next few weeks in case anyone wants to view because some of the info I get from different sources seems contradictory.
Below are my 12 girls; I did order day old chick girls specifically, but I know that isn't always accurate. Please let me know if any look suspect! Here are the breeds - the 1st 4 are from McMurrary and the 2nd ones are from My Pet Chicken. I did accept replacements though, so these could be off.
Speckled Sussex
Autralorp
Buff Oprington
Columbian OR Blue Laced Red Wyandotte (1 died a few after arrival, and I am not positive which one it was)
Lavendar Orprington
Blue / Black / Splash Oprington
2 Blue Easter Eggers
2 White Easer Eggers
Green Queen Easter Egger
Blue Cuckoo Marans
I am not positive I am correct though, so please tell me if it seems off!
Beatrix - 5.5 weeks.
Speckled Sussex
Charlotte - 4.5 weeks
Lavender Oprington
The comb is more orange than the others I think, so Charlotte may be Charles I guess
Dorthy - 4.5 weeks
Blue Oprington I think?
Her comb is more yellow than the 2nd picture looks, but it does kind of seem to fall to the side.
Etna and/or Ethel - 4.5 weeks
Blue Easter Eggers
I can't tell them apart at all!
Florence - 5.5 weeks
Australorp
Genevieve - 4.5 weeks
Green Queen (I think)
Lucille - 5.5 weeks
Buff Oprington
Marjorie - 5.5 weeks
I think she is a Columbian Wyandotte, but could be Blue Laced Red I guess
Mildred - 4.5 weeks
Snowy White Easter Egger
Her neck isn't really that red in the back; it just isn't that heavily feathered - both her and Florence's skin look way more red in this due to the light
Miriam - 4.5 weeks
Snowy White Easter Egger
And finally....
Rosemary - 4.5 weeks
Blue Cuckoo Maran (I think because her comb has 7 points).
She is suspect too because she is bigger than the others, and her legs are thick
Most of them sitting on a log
