Looking to change the laws. My name is Brook and I have had a few chickens in the past. They were mostly pets with eggs and entertainment as the benefits. I have been wanting chickens but where I now live they do not allow any poultry or livestock within the city limits. Weirton is a small town of 17k+ who used to allow chickens in the past. From what I can gather, a flock of wild chickens counting over 150 changed all that around 2010. I have to wonder with the price of chicken right now, would one escaped chicken be able to escape the proverbial frying pan of a neighbor.

Here is the current law as it stands:
§ 505.08 UNLAWFUL HARBORING OF ROOSTERS, CHICKENS, OR EXOTIC BIRDS.

It shall be unlawful for any person or persons to keep or harbor any roosters, chickens, or exotic birds (excluding parakeets, parrots, cockatoo or any small bird that is an indoor house pet) within the city limits. Any person or persons caught harboring these birds shall be fined a minimum of $200 and a maximum fine of $500 with a possibility of incarceration for a period of 30 days.

(Ord. 1691, passed 11-8-10)
