Hello just wanting to learn more before getting chickens. We are moving to casa grande az and want to raise chickens. We also have snakes 6 as of now. That is reason for sna (snake) cken (chicken) up. Not sure how summer heat will be for chickens. I do plan on getting shed with ac for rats i breed for snakes.

Thank you for any info as this is a. New adventure

Glad to meet you. Congratulations on your new Arizona home, and best wishes with chickens. Certain breeds do better in heat (or cold!) than others. You can google and get lists of chicken breeds that are better adapted to hot dry environments. But chatting here will also get a lot of info.

You will want a coop designed for the sort of hot dry weather you will have. The coop that would suit my New England chickens will certainly not be what you want. Here is a terrific article about ventilation, which is very helpful in itself, but it also includes wonderful links to a number of coop designs sorted by type of environment. Yay for a double win!

You probably won't need it for a while, but I was very pleased with the Texas chicken air conditioner: take jugs or plastic bottles of water and freeze them. Put the frozen bottles out in the coop or pen where chickens can sit near them and enjoy the coolth.

There are a lot of members from Arizona. You should find some good friendly advice there. Welcome to BYC
