Hello all. I am a fellow chicken lover and have always enjoyed info on the web I would find secondhand from byc. I use to keep chickens years ago, Americana, barred rock, buff Orpington, and golden comment. We had a big flood and I lost some chickens. Decided to give the rest away. Now, years later I have 2 new coops built and some black Australorp chicks with silver laced wyandotte chicks on the way. I got 5 Muscovys in the back but anxious to see chickens pecking around again

Hello and welcome to BYC! Glad you joined.
I would remove the cardboard from your brooder and just put down a layer of pine shavings. Cardboard is very slippery and can cause leg development issues with chicks.

I read it helps them not want to eat their bedding. The cardboard was on top of wood shavings. Cardboard was removed the 3rd day. Now they are 2 weeks old in the shed in a 3' x 5' brooder. I'll send pic tomorrow
