Hello All! My name is Margaret and I am new to BYC and to raising chickens. I now have 24 Cornish Cross birds that are 4 weeks old as of yesterday. I put them in a moveable tractor 2 days ago and we are now fighting the neighbors dog to keep them safe. My husband and I moved onto 32 acres about a year ago and this is our first attempt at raising any animals. The front 15 acres of the property we lease to a local rancher. We have discussed getting a dairy cow, laying chickens and possibly rabbits for meat, but decided chickens would be our first attempt. I look forward to all that I can learn on this forum.

Welcome to BYC! I’ve heard it said an electric fence is the best defense against dogs. I had a neighbor that let his dog roam free, but after a few years, the dog got ran over by a car.
