Introduction

Welcome! And got lots of hatching experts that can answer any incubation questions you've got.

Hiya, Courtney, and welcome to BYC! :frow

That's awesome, you're going to be hatching silkies! I have hatched over 500 silkies this year, all the same way.

99.5F throughout
45/50% humidity
Lockdown 5 days. Humidity 70%.

Any other questions, just ask! They're the same as hatching other chicken eggs. Their shell is different though, more like porcelain, and though occasionally I'll hear someone say they dry hatch, I would never with silkies.

We're glad you're here!

So I have never hatched eggs from day 1 I only bought a cheap incubator to finish out hatching ducks eggs that the mom stopped sitting on so I needed the incubator to finish hatching them for less than a week. I am only trying with silkie eggs first because I got them free from a friend. I have the still air incubator set to 101 and I have 4 different thermometers in there all reading different one is reading 96 one is reading 100 one is reading 98 and one is reading 98.6 I am no sure which one to go by and not sure if I should bump the temp up more

I would calibrate your thermometers. Get some ice, preferably crushed, but cubes are okay. Fill a big bowl with the ice and some cold water, stir. Put each thermometer in a ziplock bag. I'd stick one in at a time and leave it set a few minutes. It should read 32F. Some could take up to 15 minutes.

Ok once I figure out which thermometer is best calibrated, where in the incubator should I put it and if it's not exactly 99.5 in there is it better for it to be slightly above or below
