Hey everyone! We are Ken & June Ashmore; We both grew up in the country but neither of us know much about raising chickens. We have 18 hens & 1 rooster; we've learned that we need another rooste with that many hens; Is this true? I have a couple of questions if someone could help:
1) At what age will a hen want to set & hatch eggs naturally? (our chickens are 10 months old)

2) Will the hen set on any eggs or does she want her own ?

3) How old does the rooster need to be in order to fertilize the eggs?

Depending on the breed, you hens may or may not sit on eggs.

They will sit on anyones eggs, they are not choosy.

At 10 months the rooster is good to go.
