Hi everyone. I am very excited about being a part of this community, as I learn from your experiences and advice.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

Yes! I have never had or been around chickens. We got the chicks that we have now almost one month ago.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

12

(3) What breeds do you have?

6 Rhode Island Reds, 3 White Leghorns, 3 Cornish Rocks

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

After asking Google a lot of questions, I noticed that this was a site that was consistently coming up with easy to understand advice almost every time.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Anything outdoors. Hiking, camping, fishing, genealogy, etc.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have been married to my beautiful bride for 8 1/2 years. We have two boys who are 7 and 5, and we are in the process of adopting two amazing children from Ghana, West Africa who are 5 1/2 and 11 months. I was born and raised in East Tennessee, near Knoxville. We live on 3.5 acres with lots of woods and a pond. We have only been here since October, so I'm excited about building tree houses and making walking trails, stocking the pond, etc. I have worked in manufacturing for over 11 years and am doing serious considerations about changing that. I have a lot of business ideas, and I'm tempted to quit the job and use my 401(k) to start a business and go with it.

But then again, security is hard to leave....

I'm new here too & also from Tennessee! Look forward to hearing your experience with your chickens & so happy for your upcoming adoption!!! What a blessing!
