Hello everyone, just joined BYC and looking forward to sharing info. I have a small flock consisting of 2-ISA Brown roosters, 6-ISA Brown hens and 8-Buff Orpington hens (love those brown eggs). All free range on our 40 acres.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. If you like brown eggs Isa Browns are certainly the hens for them. Isa Brown is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links which are laying machines. You should get loads of large, brown eggs from those six girls. :o) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Strangest thing happened, after posting about loving the brown eggs, one of my ISA Browns left me a white egg. First time that's ever happened for me.

I had a white egg earlier this spring from one of my brown egg layers, all brown since. If you search the forums there are many threads on the same subject and usually nothing of concern, bet her next will be brown.

Well, another white egg today. The shell was very thin and brittle. I know the color is a different issue, but this particular hen must have a calcium deficiency.
