Hello from the Illinois side of St. Louis MO
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I was given a COMPLETE coop, run, & chickens set up 2-1/2 years ago. The coop was fabulous! 9 already laying chickens! The run, well not so much, but this past summer my fam built a wonderful covered and predator safe walk-in run.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently 9.
(3) What breeds do you have?
6 Rhode Island Reds, 1 Americana, 2 Easter Egger Pullets (that were supposed to be Golden Laced Wyandottes from local Rural King but the cheeks and recent blue eggs were a pretty good indicator that WASN'T what I got
)
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
It's hard to pick just one. I really enjoy looking out my home-office window on stressful days and just watching the girls scratch, eat and play. The eggs are kinda nice too, lol.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
We started our own company a few years ago that makes Tabletop Roleplaying Game accessories, so unfortunately that consumes 85% of free time currently. But I love to cook, crochet, garden and camp out when I can!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Married to husband coming up on 29 years. We have 5 children ranging from 14-26, 1 daughter-in-law and 2 adorable grandsons. Rounding out the circus are a 10 yr old Pek-a-poo/Shitzhou mix and a 5 mo. old Beagle puppy.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I've been a lurker since I first got my chickens 2+years ago. Probably initially found you all through google I'm sure. I decided to join when I realized I was going to need help with the baby-baby chicks I'll be getting the end of April (2 pullets from Rural King were already 6-8 weeks old when I got them on 'clearance')
