(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Oh YES! Brand new to chickens! We have not gotten our first chickens yet but are in the process of setting ourselves up.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I am thinking of starting our with 4. Unless someone recommends something otherwise.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Thinking of getting Barred Plymouth Rock Pullet from Wilco.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I have a friend who owns about 20 chickens and she recommended this site.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Previously, beekeeper. However, both our hives died last Winter so we held off this summer. Other than that, my 12 year old daughter! LOL Hence the decision to start raising chickens. I love being outdoors, animals, and country farm life (although I live in the City).

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I just recently turned 48, and am approaching 19 years of married life with my husband. =) Have lived in the same house, in the City, for these 19 years. We are so ready to move out into the country. However, prices of housing is so high that we decided to wait until next Summer to attempt selling/buying house.
We have a fun 12 year old daughter, 2 indoor/outdoor cats, and a silly JackRat poochie named Oscar (jack rus/rat terrier mix) who chose me as his loyalty over our daughter. I've always been a 'big dog' fan. We've raised a rott and pitt mix and then a boxer and pit mix. Loved them both. Our last one had to be put down about a year ago. She was my sweet friend. Her and I could communicate without sound, we understood each other so well. Decided to wait on getting another pitty until we move out of the City.
I work for a CPA as admin. asst. and do a lot of small bookkeeping and payroll.
I sit all day long so need something to keep me active when home. I don't like being bored and TV is getting old. I like to be productive in the things I choose to do so decided to start raising chickens as a new adventure in life. We have a garden in our front yard, Back to Eden style, and 2 fruit trees in the back yard. Under the fruit trees is where the chickens will go.
