Iowa Blues - Breed thread and discussion

The black chicks certainly seem to resemble the birchen chicks in this photo -

What do you make of the chocolate brown chicks? Partridge? They feather out black with some brown speckling and a lot of lacing.

Ooo, a quiz! lets see if I can get these:
E - dominant Black
ER - Birchen
eWh - Dominant white
e - wild type red
eb - brown
but what is ebc?

E-Extention of black
ER-Extention with restriction
eWh-Wheaten
e+-wild type(gold duckwing)
eb-partridge

Duh! Wheaten....
But what is ebc?

Woop! Congrats.

I've got 7 chicks doing well - 6 from you, 1 from FlashPoint.
Opened up the eggs trashed by the incubator shutting down. Roughly half were full term viable appearing chicks, the others were quitters. I think the mail really did a number on the Flashpoint eggs, dramatically different numbers there under identical incubation.

So, in the end (hopefully) I'll end up with 12 birds to raise up for my flock and we'll see what the final gender totals are.

I am loving my older ones right now. They have such perky personalities and lovely faces. Need to get photos, but am NOT taking my camera out in this rainstorm that just started.

From what I have read I believe it is the form of wheaten Buttercups have.

That is a shame about the hatch. They are such good hatchers if they don't have to travel first! I have many bator babies and quite a few with broodies. My Cochins are such good sitters, but they can't keep up with those Iowa Blue babies! I have the oldest group in a 3 foot high pen that keeps the other birds out, but at 3 weeks the babies can already fly out. I have a Wesummer/Cochin team raising them together so at least the Wellie can try to keep an eye on the ones that refuse to stay home. I ordered a new camera so I should be able to post pictures soon! The Ameraucana/IaB crosses are getting pretty interesting!

Look who decided to hatch last night.

ETA. Sorry about the picture quality. It was taken with my phone. I can't find my camera.
