Iowa Blues - Breed thread and discussion

I keep meaning to try this, need to locate a source for the grains. Want to set this up this summer. I bet they love it!
The barley I get from a local farmer who raises it for his beer making project. Rye comes from Southern States and some of those stores also carry barley, black oil sunflower seeds can be purchased at most store that sell bird seed and animal feed.

Why can't they keep their chick pattern, sometimes. So very striking, this little thing is. Love the contrast.

This batch sure showed a range. It's the last batch I had that included eggs from my blue Iowa Blue/Olive Egger pullet.
From left to right:
Silver * Smoky * Blue 3/4 Iowa Blue/ 1/4 AM/Marans * Birchen IB * ??? Iowa Blue * Silver

??? Iowa Blue. This, interestingly enough, came out of a pure silver pen, which has been hatching nothing but Silvers for weeks.
Things that make you go, hmm. No other birds near or on the loose to blend with them.
The only way I could figure that this thing could have been from an egg of another mother would be if someone got creative and messed with my eggs before I set them...which no one is allowed to do under penalty of death, but can't be 10000% ruled out when there are 3 and 4 year olds about.

Good work Connie. Quite an interesting line up. The little mysteries are always the most interesting. Could be that pheasant again. LOL

I've had a couple that look like that too. I think they might be silver without the mottling. Mine seem to be feathering out very similar to the charcoal chicks I got from Curt.

My thought was it was just melanizers all coming together in one chick over the silver, but shrug?

Hey everyone - to potentially help us with insight from other people interested in showing/standardization, we have requested the opening of a forum on ShowBirdBid for the IBCC. Hopefully we can gain some fresh pairs of eyes and insight from judges and seasoned exhibitors to help us perfect our standard! ShowBirdBid IBCC Forum I have placed a couple threads in it to start as examples of the breed for discussion.

As soon as I get some decent pictures of mine I'll post there as well. Right now, all current pictures are grainy shots off of my phone
