That said, I feel Junebug has better over all type and color for an Iowa Blue. Lightning is interesting, but from the picture his tail looks a little high, and he seems very dark on his head and neck . I couldn't hazard a guess, but agree with Draye, there seems to be a stray gene or combination that might not belong. The yellow chick/white pullet doesn't look like any of the Smokies I have raised. In the pullet photo, the feathers seem more fluffy than an Iowa Blue would have, even if she is puffed up from cold. The lacing on Lightning's breast is more like a Silver Laced pattern than Silver penciled. Very pretty, but I would select against it in my flock. Do you know which hen produced them?
Thanks for the responses so far - We are planning on JB as our primary roo , but trying to select a "backup" to "set on the bench" . We have a silver & a birchen also, but both have some funky "carnation" combs - other than that, one of them might of be used as a backup
