Gratuitous picture of the current flock.

Handsome rooster with nice color for the birchen type. I like him. :)

I had several SP roosters but most of them were culled for Autosomal Red and I lost the ones I kept to fox. I don't think too many of my eggs will go in the skillet this year. If you want more Dan, better get back on my list!

Show us your chicks!
I'll take a few photos of the chicks in a day or two; they are growing like weeds. This past week was a bear - super busy.

You probably have a waiting list as long as your arm already. I don't need a lot of birds to work with; just a few to get started.
I'm wanting some of those SPR/IB crosses of yours. Don't want much, do I? LOL Put me on the list if it isn't going to be a year's wait. A dozen, all sp works for me!

I've discovered and fixed a humidity problem I had in my house so next hatch the bator humidity should be easier to keep steady and the hatch rate should be much better.

Connie is going to be the Borg Queen of IB hatches pretty soon with those honker bators she bought. She proudly proclaimed that she intends to hog all the sp's though LOL. Maybe I can coax her to let loose a couple of 'em if you aren't going to have any.

Later - I'm going over and check out the IBCC thread.

You will be assimilated.

I'm sure I'll have some later, just not sure when. Depends on when these sweethearts from Kari get up to age. They've got a nice jump.

In the meantime I'll hatch out all the Birchens as I want to keep working on my line of those, and cull heaily. I'll have Birchen eggs available on request, but no SPs for a while.

The incubator will never be full, but I'm hoping it'll be reliable. That's what I need. :D
Got a friend who may need some space, we may trade me incubating for her selling the chicks, maybe get a little back to pay for the incubator over time.

I bought seven chicks from a variety chick straight run batch at my local feed store. I am wondering if they may be Iowa Blues. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Typically I wouldn't see white fluff on my Silver Penciled Iowa Blues at that age. They look a little more red than my chicks as well. Couldn't tell you what they are though. Do you know what hatchery supplies your feed store? You could check their website and see what the possibilities might be. Some even have pictures of the chicks to help ID them.

ClareD, you could also post your question in Chicken Breeds/What Breed or Gender is this?". Someone might recognize them.

The hatchery they come from does breed Iowa Blues and some were sent out the week I bought mine. They look like some of the other pics posted here but not all of them. The chicks are also on the small side, which I saw mentioned in a couple of posts about Iowa Blues. I will post on the thread you recommended, too. Thank you very much!

Mine usually are darker in the legs/beaks at hatch, but they sure do look like some sort of penciled chick.

I posted in "What Breed is this". I think they are Egyptian Fayoumis! Should I remove the pics so they dont create confusion?

I would be tickled 'pink' (the masculine pink

) to have hens like these, not a one I wouldnt breed to, color culling I think should be strongest on the rooster, for the hens I would only cull on lack of hardiness, egg production or too small size, and overal health. For me its the rooster that carrys a heavier load of the above in his ancestry as well as very proper color and conformation. I think this guy is excellent in both of the last.

Beautiful flock, I hope mine will be as good. Someday.
