Iowa Blues - Breed thread and discussion

My latest clutch...they don't want to leave the comfort of the new ecoglow 20. Still some piping...more to come.

I have 11 due Monday with a few turkeys, but of course they are impatient. One SP already dry when I got up and several more pips.

So, on the the bird shuffle again. My poor SPPR cockerel Max can not handle it in the layer flock. I have only 4 roosters left out in a flock of 50-60 hens, but he won't do anything but hide.

Normally the pecking order rearranges when I take a bunch for the butcher and that's a good time to add any I want to hang on to. Not this time though, When I let Percy back out of his breeding pen (Lavender AM) he thrashed everyone into submission and took over lead spot. Everyone else has settled down, but Max is so submissive he makes himself huge target. So I took pity on him and put him in with his kids and the birchen IaB's I pulled out of Rex's pen. Rex now has only the SP girls and the 4 SP and 2 Silver Duck wing pullets. Had to get them away from those bully boys.

I guess we need to come up with a name for the yellow chipmunk chicks. SIlver Duck wing isn't quite right.

We had another one hatch tonight. I think I am having humidity issues...this crazy weather isn't helping any.

I have always had problems with hatch rate with IaB.

That's too bad! They've always done well for me. I usually incubate dry in my Reptipro and very low humidity in my Genesis forced air so they have a nice big air cell when they hatch. Chicks are a little smaller, but they hatch like popcorn usually 36 hours or so early.

Edited to add I have 9 of 11 hatched and 1 turkey poult. 4 SP and 5 ER
