Iowa Blues - Breed thread and discussion

Ha! That phrase always reminds me of The Music Man - Eulalie Mackecknie Shinn and her Grecian urns. "Come on, Ladies, Tempus fugit!"

Can't find that scene, but here's one of my favorites from that musical...appropriate for the BYC...

Ooouw! Strange day for strange eggs. Australorp egg nearly 3 1/2 inches long; normal IaB egg, nearly round IaB pullet egg.
Love the Music Man!!! all those ladies "gossiping" like a flock of hens.

We have had some strange eggs too, like a "push me pull me" style with two round ends ! double yolkers. Not sure who is laying those, but our IaB's are laying just like yours, Dan :)

Okay, Okay...fun and games time is over so put your pretty little egg coloring set away and get back on here so we can talk some turkey...I mean Iowa Blues!

Hope everybody had a very special weekend.

I have a pullet that hatched 3-9-14 out of my hen that Curt likes, and so far she's showing traits of her mama

. She's bigger than her mom at that age and maybe a lighter head, but otherwise she's displaying slate legs and same patterning. I'm excited to see how she turns out.... I'm hoping to get pictures (other than on my phone) of everything I have worth showing and posting soon.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to the show in Avoca on Mother's Day weekend as I have an orchestra competition that weekend

. It's probably for the best though, my birds that are old enough to show are in my breeder pen right now... playing catch up from this lousy spring we're having!

On a brighter note, the development in my eggs has taken off these last two settings. I have some set to hatch this weekend, hopefully I get something! I've had the most horrible luck hatching lately.... I haven't been able to get the humidity up to where it needs to be. I've made adjustments for this hatch, so I'm just praying... wish me luck!

I would love to see the photos of your pullet.

Will the Iowa's be showing at Avoca?

Good luck with your hatch. We will be setting some the end of May.

Easter was very nice, thanks. Had a great buffet at a really nice restaurant, then visited with our Mothers in the afternoon. Didn't get to play with the chickens though! :)

It is almost Mothers Day. No posts since Easter? Hmmm...everyone must be as busy as I am! LOL
I'm glad to see a little rain today; gives me a chance to rest my tired and broken body. Whomever said they couldn't wait for Spring must have forgotten about all the work that goes along with it. Think I'll take a nap now.

I'm battling with a bout of coccidiosis. I've lost all of my Ameraucanas save a three year old trio, and the Silver pullet that I mentioned the other week. My best IB rooster is sick... things aren't looking good over here.

On a brighter note, my hatch over the weekend was a success, 13 Silver chicks hatched out of 14 that went into lockdown. I'm pretty pleased with that!
