Iowa Blues - Breed thread and discussion

When is the display at the fair (which days)?

Hannah Dagel will have her IB's there for the 4-H show and will do a presentation on the IB's in the 4-Hbuilding on the 8th, sometime the morning. The open class may beg checking in after 5pm on the 8th. The show itself will be 9th with a late release on the 10th, usually around 5pm.

Hi all! I've got five 8-week old Iowa Blue cockerels up for grabs, free. There are 4 silver, 1 smoky. All are in fantastic shape, raised by Mama hens, and are ready and raring to go. I'm in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, so if you're near there, come check them out. They were hatching eggs from Kari McKay-Widdell. See some pics below. Email me at aghiowa@yahoo . com. Thanks!

I added some information and pictures concerning the Charcoal Iowas on the "Understanding the Traditional Type" thread. For those who haven't been to this thread, it's a thread geared to genetic study of the Iowas only.

I had noticed in the past that it was hard to keep a genetic conversation going alongside hatching info, etc. all in one thread, so I started up a separate thread as a place for our genetic study of the breed to stay on course. Do keep in mind, the thread is geared toward those breeders who desire to capture the original breeding patterns in their flocks and how to achieve those goals. We have a wide range of breeders in our club, some who desire small homestead flocks, some who desire showring stock, and some who desire to expand the current color expressions of the breed. All play an important part to the breed, its growth, and its survivability.
That said, the goal of Understanding the Traditional Type is to equip those individuals who look to the Iowas as a homestead bird and desire their flocks to exhibit the natural variation of the original breeding population. There isn't a lot of information out there for those individuals so hopefully this thead will aid those individuals as they work on meeting flock goals.

I am unsure if any of these still exist. If not, whoever has the info can email it to me and I will take it to a printer.
I have the old ones and can bring them, thought they are out of date. I thought Connie had a new one made she could send you though. I also have the ribbons and the banner. Curt, do you still have your laminated photos? Perhaps I could stop by and grab them? I wasn't planning to be at the show until early Saturday, though.

FYI;

Al, (Alnice Nichols), the State Fair poultry show Supervisor, has messaged me several times sharing with me that folks have been expressing great interest in wanting to see the Iowa Blues at the Fair this year! She has called me and said there are people wanting to buy birds and she is telling them to get themselves to the show and get info on these birds and breeders!
It's exciting to hear. Even though we won't have a program, we will still have a table and or share the registration table.
Will anyone have a pair of birds in the hall of breeds? I hope so! It's great advertisement..........
Al, is excited to have the birds in the show and I continue to make contacts where I can. Next I will be tackling the media.
Who can get me color brochures and printed materials? Even black and white copies should be on the table when there is not a club rep there.
Eric

I have the laminants if you want to take them. I don't know if I'm going to make it yet or not, so it would be a good idea for you to grab them if you're out my way sometime.
