Iowa chicken noob here:)

We would have built or own and maybe will one day but buying a used coop was our option this go around. But we are not ashamed of messing up and learning:)
Putting too many chickens in to small of a space will cause all kinds of avoidable problems.
Some problems are not reversable so it's best if you prevent them from the beginning.

I do have a coop. It is a prefab that I bought off of someone. I think it should work tho. I have a farmer close by who sells laying hens and we visited someone who's been buying their chickens from him for years and they are healthy girls.
Hiya, and welcome to BYC!! :frow

You haven't said where you live, but if you get rain, wind, snow, and predators there, typical prefabs will last maybe a couple of years, are too small, and won't be secure against any varments that might come visit. I hope you'll check out the links @DobieLover posted above and consider using that only temporarily while you build yourself a draft-free, secure coop, with more room in it.

I will do that. This one will hold 2 at least which is good for now. It has been given a few upgrades and is made of stronger material. Our options were limited so we are making due for the time with what was available.

This one will hold 2 at least. Which works for now but an upgrade will be in the works. The run is big and we are going to upgrade as we go.

That sounds great! So many of us here either have first-hand experience or know of many others, that those prefab coops are usually a waste of money, and they falsely advertise how many chickens they can hold. At least yours is reinforced and temporary. Do you know what chicken math is? ☺️ You say you have two now...

I do know chicken math 😂. I'm limited to 4 as I'm in town so that helps
