IR Heat Lamp is Waking up Chickens

Sorry if you didn't like it but I'm very blunt. You want to do battle? Find someone to battle with then, simply I wont waste my time "battling" on a forum. Sheesh get a life.
You already have, so it's too late to make that claim.
Smart people know when to just remain silent

To the OP:

Get rid of the HEAT lamp, replace it with a NORMAL 100 Watt light bulb, and cover it with a clay flowerpot that will both retain and radiate heat, but won't let the light show through

Chickens really don't need extra heat until it's well below zero

I have thought of that idea, but the problem is that covering with the clay flower pot most likely would require me to play the bulb on the floor or jerry rig some way of hanging a clay flower pot, which is heavy. I like the idea of the flow pot, I have seen it used to heat water in a coop, the only problem is that I have a feeling my chickens would either attempt to knock it over or get bedding material in or around it possibly causing a fire. It often gets well below freezing where I am located and I currently have the lamp set up on a thermostat so it doesn't kick on until it drops into the 20s. I appreciate all of the other ideas, I never thought of the clay pot to block the light, more for use as a heater to keep water from freezing. Thanks for the suggestion.

Goodness, someone is cranky.. I think the good thing about this forum is that there are many different suggestions and opinions to help find a solution to your problem. No one way is correct or should ever be forced down someones throat because things work differently for everyone. Were heated water bowls may be the only way for the guy up the road, for me since I have a smaller operation I will just use several gallon waterers and fill them with warm water. I think it is silly to jump down someones throat simply because they were giving their opinion and or thoughts on a solution. Any little bit helps. I personally here in missouri do not heat my coop, but know several in the area who do. Ya know what to each his own. My birds are just as healthy and vibrant as the people around here who do heat. I do not see a problem with informing the OP that there is no need for artificial heat, what if they did not know this before hand and by recieving this info could shut the light off and save on his energy bill? That would be great!! If he already knew this fine, what did it hurt to offer this advice/opinion?

A couple of "L" brackets and a board or two will give you a solid shelf to sit it on to keep it from getting knocked over, and away from the bedding.

A normal light bulb won't get hot enough to ignite a fire like heat lamps

I loved this idea. Also there is the cookie tin heater and the cinderblock heater. I think once it gets too difficult to haul buckets of warm water in the winter I am going to go with the cookie tin heater, I have tons of those. I have no electric in my coop but I am building a bigger one next year, maybe I can sneak some electric in the plans lol
