Irrigation water?

Can I water my chickens with irrigation water? It seems like it would be ok but I thought I would get some opinions.

Would you drink it?

I would not water the chickens with it - I am sure there are some who would/do and chickens often will drink out of some nasty looking puddles but I want them to have fresh water to drink mostly (I am eating their eggs at the minimum - quality in is quality out in my mind)
