Is 1 bag of medicated chick starter enough?

If your management (ie cleanliness) is up to snuff, most likely the chicks won't get sick with the coccidiosis, and will go on to develop immunity to the parasite by adulthood. Just remember to switch feeds very gradually to avoid any problems in that regard. I used medicated feed with these (my first, as well) chicks, but in the fall I will most likely just use good management practices and flock raiser unless there is a problem. Good luck!

I contacted Purina after our first chicks and they stated there is not an issue eating the eggs once they have started laying even if they are on medicated start and grow, the current medication used in their feed has no carry over into eggs according to them. Just thought I would pass that along.

It inhibits the thiamine uptake, I believe... just more so in the coccidia than in the host bird... still, I'd rather my eggs had all the thiamine they could, and that there was nothing in them to inhibit me from using what was there. KWIM?
