My 4 chicks are about 7 weeks old...the thing I've noticed when they're in the run is that they all hang out together. If one wants to eat they'll all surround the food, if one wants to peck at the grass in the corner, they'll all be there. I often go out and do the quick count and only see one or two chicks...then one stands up and the other ones pop up from being all huddled together.
This might change when they're bigger, but it's not like the more chickens, the more spread out they'll be. Maybe if there are a lot of them that break up into small groups.
