Is 2 eggs a day normal and is it possibly an inherited trait?

Wow that is pretty unique. My girls have never laid 2 in one day ... per chicken that is.

I took poultry reproduction in college and was taught that it was absolutely not possible. I was scratching my head for a while but she has 100% for sure laid two in one day on more than one occasion.

Many have had a hen that laid two eggs in a day. While certainly unusual, it happens. There are exceptions to everything.

@mbensmith. See if you can get a vet to do an ultrasound!

It would make sense though. It would also have a good chance of being heritable!
