Is 6 foot high run going to work?

Not if you put a top on it they won't. You do need it to be covered to keep owls and hawks out.....besides after a loss here to a racoon that worked its way through the top wire I see the need for a secure top!

If their wings are not clipped, then yes they can make their way over a 6 foot fence.
I used thin rope for a while to make it higher. Then I just clipped the wings, which worked well. Now I have switched to a enclosed run.
I have had my 4 chickens for a year and not lost one, while useing a fence with no top. I do close my coop at dusk every night though. I made the switch the their new area a week ago and I feel that they are much safer.

this run is 20 " by 30" puting a top on it will take a while. i lock all my birds in at dusk.

I would just put them in and see if they fly out, they might not even try in a run that size.
If they do, you could clip a wing a little and that will keep them in. If you do not want the wings clippped for looks or so they have a better chance of getting away from a predator, I would just figure out how to rig some thin rope around the top 10" or so above the fence, it seems to keep them in. I have a 4' fence and ran 3 strings going up to about 7' before all but one quit jumping it. Clipped the wings and they were done!
Also make sure there is nothing near the fence they can climb on, if my coop was within about 8' of the fence they would use the dang water bowl to get on the coop and use it to jump out.
just what I did, I'm sure there are probably better ways

Can they fly over a 6' fence? Sure.

Will they? Only the chickens know. And they can change their minds any time they want LOL

One thing that somewhat reduces their tendency to fly over seems to be having no horizontal lumber at the very top of the fence -- so they do not have a screamingly-obvious 'target' to aim at, and can't fly up *onto* the fence, perch there, and then fly out. This is not a guarantee though, it is just a help. And it does look a little odd

As others have said, if you REALLY don't want htem flying out then some sort of a top on the run is whatcha need.

Good luck, have ufn,
