I couldn't stand the stink and dust anymore and moved some 6 week old's out to the coop today. I made them a brooder for inside the coop and since still snow season here, I took their heat lamp out with them. They are enjoying it out there, holding steady at 72.

In the house however, the rest of the 6 week old crew is acting like their freezing! lol It's 63 in the laundry room where they are. They are sleeping all huddled together. I don't know whether to buy another heat lamp...put a space heater in there, or will they be fine?

Thanks!

Why did you move only some of them out to the coop?
The ones still in the house would probably appreciate a space heater in the room with them. They could probably handle the temps fine, but not suddenly. It needs to be a gradual decrease.

Well, in theory, going by the reducing the heat by 5 degrees each week, they should be down to around 70 degrees. I'm guess they're feathered out, so they'll probably be okay. But I'd offer a low wattage bulb on one end of their brooder, because their behavior is showing that they're cold.

Thanks everyone! I put a space heater in there with them. I did want to put them all in the coop, but DH didn't have time to build a separation for them. I didn't want the Guineas to be able to bug them. He went out of town this morning and I put something together, but it was smaller then I wanted so I only put half out there. He will fix it Saturday when he gets home, I'm sure!

I thought the ones left inside would be fine, they seem to have all their feathers and the heat lamp was already several feet away from them. I guess it was giving more warmth then I thought.
