We are converting an old swing set into a chicken coop and run. The coop is A-frame and the floor space will be 5x5. Is this big enough for 5 Bantams, a Barred Rock, a New Hampshire and a Leg Horn. Could we put the nesting boxes inside, or should we attach them to the outside? The run space is 16x8 so they have 128 sqaure ft to roam outside. We have the option to go out 3' farther one one side, adding 15 square foot, but it will require more materials.

I'm worried that 5x5 for 8 chickens, is not big enough with two nesting boxes, food and water, all inside.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

yes I think it would be for three standards and 5 bantams (bantams only count as a 1/2 of a chicken) so really you only have like 5 1/2 chickens

...you should only need 2-3 nesting boxes...I use 1 nesting box per 4 hens...and if you are really worried about space in the coop you could put the water and feeder outside in the run during the day and store it some where else during the night..that way you wont be feeding night time animals like coons or possums.
