Is a Chicken Door Necessary?

I'm building a 4'x5' coop; wood siding on three sides, with two hardware cloth doors making up the front of the coop. There will also be a 5'x 6" ventilation opening at the top of the back wall. This will be covered with hardware cloth, also.
I'm wondering if I really need to put a chicken sized door in the coop... and ditto the run.
The hens will stay in the coop until I open it up in the morning; they will only free range when I open their run so they can get out.

So do I really need to make a chicken sized door?

It's really up to you. It's your coop isn't it

If you feel no need for the door, don't add it.

Mine has no chicken size door...only the people door.

Our new coop we are building, will not have pop doors....just human size!

This is what I had been thinking....
When we bring them back into the house after the chicks have run wild in the back yard for a few hours, one little blonde B Orp. has no trouble at all flying back out of the brooder box and finding her way out our large sliding glass doors in the back of the house!

I'm sure they'll all be fine with a people door.
