Gold Comet (AKA Sex-link) are a cross bred.
The cross could be a cross of a Rhode Island Red and Rhode Island White. I said could because there are other crosses that will get you the same thing..

Hatchery Golden Comets, should be that cross or a similar one, but hatcheries have a way of adding in anything that is convenient for them, grabbing fast feather cockeral lines from a breed they already have that is similar in type, etc, or slow feathering or better rate of lay, anything to increase PRODUCTION and sorting ease. So yes, they're mixes. To what extent, depends on the source.

Hatcheries will do that to any breed, even supposed purebred breeds. Most people who get hatchery delawares discover that the hatchery added columbian rock, or some other breed to boost production, and the result almost kinda looks like a Delaware so they sell it that way.

I have godlen comets 14 of them, the mother is a white rock and the father is a new hampshire, they are great egg layers even in the winter

Are you pullets red or white with red fleck in them? Reason I ask is that usually the white rooster over the red hen will make an Amberlink (White Rock x New Hampshire)

ooopppps!!!!! Second time I messed up getting them turned around in my head when I replied. Sorry.
