In the last 2-3 weeks we have found 2 clutches of eggs. One in the barn, with the hen sitting on them. We didn't know there were eggs under her, so we picked her up. She wasn't in when we shut the hen house. Just thought she didn't get in before dark. There were 14 eggs under her. She went back to henhouse and we moved her and the eggs to an empy coop we have, but she didn't set anymore. On mon eve, my GD and I were walking in the yard and found 4 banty eggs under a brushpile. I picked them up and brought them in. The thing is, the bantys NEVER come out of the run. Most of our other chickens do and free range all day, but the bantys never come out. Have noticed this one particular banty out in the yard. Last eve. I noticed her out and she mosied over to the brushpile, scratched around a minute and then went right to the place where the eggs were. She was there about 1 min, then hightailed back in to the run, never stopping. Is this a sign a hen is going broody? I haven't observed any special clucking, puffing up, or sitting on the nest for long periods of time. We have never had a hen go broody, so I really don't know what to look for. I would like a broody!
