Is anyone worried about bird flu?

Nope, not worried about a bird flu any more then anything else thats happening in this world....I have a pharmacist in my family and no one ever mentioned killing off chickens...not touching mine...

If bird flu hits, then us backyard chicken folks will probably be the arks that help the egg/poultry industry survive. All the more reason to allow us our eccentricities...

But to make my peeps safer, we put hardware cloth on our tractor rather than regular chicken wire. It can keep everything out except a small snake. And the girls only free range for an hour or so while we're watching, due to neighborhood predators. If we ever heard of a bird flu outbreak in the US, free play would stop and then I KNOW our peeps couldn't come in contact with an infected wild bird!

The way I see it is if we kill our flocks, there will still be MILLIONS of wild birds carrying it. We will have just as big a chance getting it from them as we will from our flock. They are all over our houses and poop everywhere, unlike our birds, who only poop in the coop, unless we freerange of course.
