Is black the dominant color gene?

I recently tried to incubate some of my chicken eggs. I had a black silkie and a black jersey giant rooster in the pen with standard and bantam hens. My hens were various colors(white, buff, splash and black). All the chickens that hatched successfully (two) are black. The ones that died in the shell were black also. Do I need to get a different color rooster to get a color other than black? I would like some buff or splash colors in my flock.

Black X white.. depending on recessive/dominant white, comes out white birds with black spots. Black and splash would make blue, other then that though the blacks would take over the other colors..

So what color rooster should I get to get the most color variations with a buff hen, and a white hen?

A buff roo and a white roo...

If you want a specific color, get the specific color roo, otherwise you are rolling the dice. Breeding cross colors may produce a chick colored the way you want, but the chances are slim to not ever.

.. if you want actual colors, BBred-white=Red pyle, (and have also heard.. if bred properly.. it can produce a Silver duckwing). buff is just good to breed with buff as far as I KNOW.
