my chickens were running free a while ago and they got into the dogfood, they seemed to like it alot so ive been giving it to them as a treat. I was wondering if that was ok, or if it could be harmful, or maybe even helpful seeing as how dogfood carries many nutrients?anyone know?

I don't think it will hurt them as long as it doesn't replace their diet. My chickens go after the cat food when I forget to put it in the house.

I mix dog and cat food into my feed all the time

you will get lots of opinions on this one...so you will get to use your own judgement

I fed dogfood as a treat to my chickens in the past and didnt have a problem with it.
It should be fine as long as its fed like a treat and not the main food source

If it contains all the nutrients the chickens need in the right proportions then no problem.

Yes and no. My cats are on Science Diet/Royal Canin so I am ok with them eating the cat food, but some brands are REALLY salty (IE, pedigree, whiskas, purina, etc.) and thats not good for the chicks.

Otherwise, mmmm, wet cat food! Chickens love it, Bam-Bam eats it every morning and night when she comes inside LOL.

Allrighty then, thanks yall! ill try tha cat food, ive also heard they like yogurt, ne thoughts?

As an occasional treat it's fine. But not as a steady diet.

I mixed DogFood and hotwater with a couple of eggs thrown in for my hens when I ran out of chicken feed once, it didn't hurt them and they went to bed with a full crop, the next morning my DD delivered the chicken food (she was 2 days delayed from her planned arrival date).

a little bit will not hurt.... god bless you and your chickens and happy st. patty day!
