is Duramycin safe for rabbits?

I am wondering the same thing because I can't find Terramycin unless I order it on-line. I thought oxytetracyline was the same as Terrmycin but Duramycin is not OXY tetracyline is just tetracyline. Any help or clarification would be greatly appreciated

I asked a similar question here about dosage for a kit eons ago and didn't get replies. Terrimycin is hard to come by now so feed stores are suggesting Duramycin as a replacement. True, it's not the same.

I'm not suggesting either's use, and any antibiotic can be very destructive to the delicate system of the rabbit, but for a large breed adult, many that use it would use 1 tablespoon mixed in 1 whole gallon of water (that's kept in the frig) and given in their water bottle as their only water source for 10 days, changing out the frig mixture every few days to keep it fresh. RabbitRX or similar can be of some comfort with it's herbs. Bene-bac or yogurt can sometimes help their system handle the antibiotics, with no guarantees.

If this is for a special pet rabbit, a rabbit savvy vet trip is more in order since they can render aid and find out what antibiotic would be best and can sometimes have a better outcome than home treatment and just riding it out. Snuffles can pass with minimal home aid and they can recover from the bout (and may or may not have bouts for the rest of their lives), or it can progress to tilt head and worse even under the best of care.

What age, breed, symptoms, and are there other rabbits?

Hoping the best for your bun.

I don't want to hijack this thread but at the same token would rather not start a whole new one? We were given some Flemish Giants that were in dire need for a home. They were abandoned and in really bad shape, with ear mites and so neglected..Not much info on age etc. other than they are full grown and of breeding age. I don't even know if our big guy will even need antibiotics but wanted to have them handy just in case. He had sore hocks which are healing with some NEosporin and we gave him a couple big tiles to lay on the wire cage is above ground. We did the wire cage to avoid mites, bugs etc. on their bedding and to give them as much air flow as possible.

I don't know if he has urine scalding?? His testicles had little sores on them that are now scabbing over but one spot has some puss

where they fold over...We started putting peroxide on it to draw the infection out and a light coat of Neosporin but this has only been going on for a couple days & no improvement on that area yet. I'm not too familiar with flemish giants but his testacles are SO BIG and SO LOW he steps on them!!!! We clipped his nails too for fear he was scratching himself up..I can order Terramycin on-line but can get Duramycin on the ground locally (quicker) and also tetracyline which is why I was asking..

Any help is greatly appreciated thanks.
