is egg fertile?

I have a hen that has been sitting on one egg for about at least a week.. today she left it and started sitting in another nest on another egg .. It is a brown egg and I did the light to see inside and I can see the yolk at the bottom it moves a little.. the rest of the egg has dark spots in it but I can not tell if it the start of a chick or just a bad egg ... I have watched a ton of vidieo's and none of them really helped.. The dark areas in the egg look like veins but I can not see any movement.. it might just be bacause the egg is a little cool.. it was not frozen but it was not as warm as it needed to be..

Does the vain look inside the egg part of the egg going bad or does it mean that the egg is still trying to fight?

You're not going to see movement in an egg that's been incubating for a week. At that stage, you're looking for veining. Hold the egg fat-end-up. Use a very, very bright flashlight and candle from the fat end, down into the egg. Look for the air cell. Now, look carefully around the edge of the air cell. You should be able to see some veining near the air cell if it's fertile and developing. If you can't find the air cell, or any veining, toss the egg.

I shined the light onto the egg and it looks like there are veins all around the inside of the shell except where the yolk is at.. I can see the yolk but there are to many dark spots to center in on one. . I just do not know if it is normal for a brown egg to looks so dark and veiny inside.. I would hate to get rid of another egg that has a baby in it..

oh yes.. we have a rooster.. that puts all roosters to shame... he is twice as big as the hens.. almost looks like a turkey.. :/

Sounds like a healthy, developing chick to me. Stick it under her quick, and pull her 'new' egg. Don't let her keep sitting on them both. She'll stop sitting once that first chick is a day or two old, leaving the 'new' egg with another week of incubating left.

ok.. Great. I hope it is a fertile egg. I did put it back under her "she was not happy about that" I will check on her in the morning and if she has moved nests again... I will bring the egg inside and let it cook for a few more weeks and maybe I will be able to see more definition inside the egg..

This is her first nesting so I was not to supprised that she got bored.. I am shocked she lasted that long..

Thanks for the advice... I will keep and eye on it and take over if needed I am keeping my fingers crossed that the egg is good..
