Is Feeding Chickens Bread Okay?

My birds will eat white bread. However, when I toss them a scrap or two of white bread, I consider that it's not providing them with any nutrition, and it's taking away from their "real food". One might ask why I would even have any white bread scraps in the house! Why indeed! Good question!

I have a four month experiment running; I have withheld the organic soy free later pallets from my chickens, instead they have been eating much whole-grain/organic bread's. I get it for free. I have six sex-linked black dot hens. Their egg production has stayed the same, averaging 5 per day. They also get lots of greens, including organic grape leaves from my garden, which they devour with gusto. I think they are robustly healthy.

I forgot; a couple weeks ago I made " bread beer; here's a photo of them devouring it after I had removed most of the liquid, which I distilled and made some white lightning.

I have no idea how you post a photo I'm not seeing it here… Oh well imagine…

I used to feed my mix of 27 Standards and Bantams earth worms. Yes, it was quite a chore to go out at night or digging during the day to get 20-30 worms for treats. They liked them pretty good but no where near the way they like bread! These birds will literally go bonkers trying to get at the bread I'm holding in my hands. I normally give 2-3 slices each morning as a treat. I like watching the frenzy and being close to the birds.....they will stand on my shoes and everything!!
Now, I just need to find a source for reduced bread Lol!
