Is first egg of the season usually a dud?

My peahen, Anastasia, finally laid her first egg of the season. Should I assume that the first egg (or the first few eggs) that she lays is infertile? I read that somewhere but not sure if it is a fact. Any opinions out there?

Many of my first eggs are fertile.

We always crack the first egg of the season and look for the bullseye. Sometimes it is fertile, sometimes it isn't. It's always delicious though If it's not fertile, we just open the next one until we see the first bullseye, then we start setting them.

I incubate all eggs, if they are infertile after ten days we cook them for the birds or dogs.
